My first
recollection of observing art making was probably watching my
grandmothers sewing quilts. They were both gifted in creating
patterns, selecting particular colors and shapes of fabric and
stitching wonderful fine ornamental lines into compositions. They
were my first art teachers in many more ways than I could have
imagined.

Art
is the vehicle through which I develop understanding of the world
around me. It is my opportunity to observe, learn and express my
feelings about the environment and mindscape in which we live. When
I begin a work of art it is with a series of question, letting the
process provide answers. With a strong
sense
of intuition for combining materials and a passion for art history,
I approach my work as a scientist testing a hypothesis. I’m as much
interested in the experiment as the results.
The
creative process of combining different materials to manifest ideas
or develop imagery that communicates a narrative intrigues me. I
strive to create work that goes beyond momentarily pleasing the
eye. My desire is to make art that touches the intellect and
emotions. My ultimate goal is to create art that provides the
observer and myself a glance at the world anew.
As an artist living and working in Hunt, Texas. I build studio
furniture and sculpture. My primary medium is wood and clay but I
also work with stone, glass, iron, paint and found objects both
natural and man-made.
